Wake Up to Wellness
To promote healthy living and to highlight the wide range of services and offerings here at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, we will offer education at various times during the month.  Stop by the Front Desk between 9-11 a.m. for the following events:

Next Chapter Book Club/ Greystone Chapter
1st and 3rd Monday of each month from 4:30 - 5:15 p.m.  Book club meeting follows the Hoover School System calendar.
The Next Chapter Book Club (NCBC) offers weekly opportunities for people with developmental disabilities to read and learn together, talk about books, and make friends in a relaxed, community setting.  This group meets at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen in the Wellness Area.  The information, please visit: https://www.facebook.com/nextchapterbookclubgreystonechapter.

Baby Café
Every Wednesday, 10 a.m.-noon
We invite breastfeeding moms to join us for our lactation support group meeting at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen.  Moms will have the opportunity to meet with a lactation consultant, as well as network with other breastfeeding moms.  The group is designed to give breastfeeding moms encouragement and support, as well as helpful information and tips from our expert.  This event is free, but please call Rosie at 930-2807 to reserve your space.
 
Lupus Support Group: May 6, 10 a.m.-noon
This group supporting lupus patients and their families will meet the first Saturday of every month at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen.  This month a discussion will revolve around a Q & A session.  This event is free and is sponsored by the LUPUS Foundation of America-MID-SOUTH Chapter. Blood Pressure/Body Mass Index Screening: May 9, 8-11:30 a.m.
A representative from Wellness Services will be screening for blood pressure and BMI in the front entrance at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. This is a free service.

Comprehensive Diabetes Education: May 16, 9 a.m.-1 pm
If you have diabetes or are at risk, this seminar at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen is a must. A physician’s referral is required. Pre-assessments given preceding the class time.  Please call 939-7248 to register.

Cuisine at One Nineteen: Homewood Gourmet: May 18, 6-7:30 pm
Join Chef Chris Zapalowski of Homewood Gourmet as he shares light and healthy recipes for spring. Menu includes chilled cucumber-dill soup; baby blue salad with strawberries, oranges, spiced pecans, blue cheese and honey-balsamic vinaigrette; and roasted chicken with vegetable quinoa and sherry vinaigrette. Bring a friend and a bottle of wine and enjoy this fun cooking demonstration and dinner at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Mediterranean Diet Month: A Turkish Dinner Party
May 19, 11 a.m. -noon
May is Mediterranean Diet Month, making it the perfect time to explore the flavors of this healthful eating style. Registered Dietitian and Chef, Jessica Ivey, who went on a culinary tour to Turkey in 2015, shares some of her favorite recipes from that trip for a cross-cultural taste adventure at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. The cost is $12 per person for tasting. Please call 408-6600 to register by May 17.

Wellness Screenings: May 24, 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m.
To stay abreast of your numbers, cholesterol, blood glucose, blood pressure, BMI and waist circumference screenings will be held by appointment at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen. Results and interpretation in fifteen minutes with a simple finger stick. The cost is $20 for members and non-members. Register now for Culinary Boot Camp:  A Cooking Academy for Teens: June 5-9, 8 a.m.- 12:30 p.m.
Teens (13 to 18 years old) will learn to cook like a true chef at St. Vincent’s One Nineteen, honing various skills while cooking delicious recipes and learning versatility with foods that will allow them to cook meals at home with ease. Basic skills to be taught include knife skills and cooking techniques including sautéing, roasting, grilling and braising. The cost is $225 a week, including apron.
